Laos is one of the most beautiful countries in Southeast Asia. And it also offers a variety of tourist attractions, such as historical sites, hill tribe villages, waterfalls, and national parks. If you are planning to visit Laos and would like to spend some time playing golf while exploring this enchanting country, we highly recommend that you visit the best golf courses in Laos listed below:
1.Luang Prabang Golf Club
Luang Prabang Golf Club lies roughly 6 km to the West of the town center and is situated along the Mekong River on the South Bank. It is surrounded by tropical mountains which are forested. This course is in the top list must play golf courses in any golf tour in this country. A tour of 3 days including this golf course will give you more information useful.
Holes 14 up to 17 lies parallel to the riverbank. Par three 17th plays right, along the edge of this river, while Par four, hole 18 plays uphill, 35’ over 375 yards right from tips to the medium-sized green sloping 7’ right to left, going across a putting surface of 75 feet. In general, the greens tend to be in between medium and small.
The elevation changes throughout the whole course are mild, except for the 18th hole. It’s not hard to walk on the Luang Prabang Golf Club, as the terrain is gentle or has undulating slopes. The fairways themselves are wider, at around 35-40 yards in width. This golf course is relatively new but is a work in progress.
They partner with nature and showcase some of the untouched terrains on their property. It’s surrounded by a moderately rough area that depends on how they cut the grass. There are sand traps that are present in order to protect most greens and fairway bunkers have been used liberally, which affects the placement of the tee shots upon all holes, apart from 14 and par three holes.
2. Laos Country Club
At the Laos Country Club, golfers can enjoy a scenic course with rolling hills, a relaxing atmosphere and difficult water hazards. Only recently opened and just 18km from Vientiane, the course makes for the perfect place for practicing one’s golf swing, relaxing with some delicious Laotian cuisine, and getting a few rounds in before heading back to the city for a relaxing evening.
Laos Resort has done a wonderful job in upgrading the former Youth Garden Golf Course to meet high resort standards. It is one of the oldest golf properties in Laos, so it was important that they would fix it up, and they can be congratulated for the professional upgrade.
Some of the teeing grounds have a bit of water in the front, but this is more cosmetic and psychological than strategic because of how little carrying the hazards can take. From the tees, they’re generous with well-placed bunkers placed strategically throughout them. And the greens are immaculately mowed to a comfortable speed with no encroaching foreign grasses prevalent.
3. Lakeview Vientiane Golf Club
Lakeview Vientiane Golf Club is a golf course within Vientiane City designed to be challenging and fun. Despite being situated in an area with no hills, designers have cleverly created two artificial hills in which players need to carry their ball all the way up before it reaches the hole.
The natural environment of Lakeview Vientiane is pristine, and you can see why it’s one of the most popular golf resorts in Laos. The undulating greens are framed by a series of lakes, which are in turn surrounded by steep sand bunkers. The Paspalum grass makes for low-maintenance and high-quality playing fields.
The trees that come into play on the Laos golf course make it quite a challenge, yet the service enhancements and other facilities at the Lakeview Vientiane Golf Club put it up to par with international standards.
4. Long Thanh Vientiane Golf Club
Long Thanh Vientiane Golf Club is the first 27-hole course in Laos. The original 18 opened in 2012 and the second 18 in 2016. It’s located 1 kilometer from Vientiane, 16 kilometers outside of town, and inside a special duty-free zone.
Long Thanh Vientiane Golf Club is on mostly flat terrain. There are, however, some man-made mounding features and water hazards to test your skill. It also includes carefully planned bunkers and wide fairways, as well as trees and flowers for a softer atmosphere.
If golfers can spend a week to make a golf tour in Laos, there are many options of world-class golf courses for them to decide on, absolutely including Long Thanh Vientiane.
The East Course plays through a series of lakes and forested areas. Greens are protected from water hazards and club selection is important when hitting approach shots. The West Course is more open but has more bunkers and undulated fairways.
The course at Long Thanh Vientiane Golf Club includes a beautiful driving range and two putting greens. The clubhouse is modern and posh, with a large locker room, an international restaurant, and a well-stocked pro shop. You can even play golf here at night thanks to the floodlights on the course. Caddies are all male and while their English is rather limited, their golf knowledge is quite good. Overall, a very impressive crew with high service standards.
