Laos Golf Holidays: Mekong Views, Ancient Temples & Golf Packages 2026/2027

Laos golf holidays offer something genuinely rare in Southeast Asia: golf courses set against rolling hills, verdant valleys, and views of the Mekong River, played at a pace and price that the country’s larger neighbours have long since left behind. Laos has fewer courses than Thailand or Vietnam, but what is here is well-kept, genuinely enjoyable across handicap levels, and surrounded by a culture that most golf trips elsewhere cannot match.

The two main hubs are Vientiane and Luang Prabang. In the capital, Long Thanh Vientiane Golf Club and Sea Games Golf Club are among the courses most visiting golfers play, with fairways that wind through quiet countryside on the edge of the city. Luang Prabang Golf Club sits near the UNESCO World Heritage town, with mountain backdrops and a more relaxed, scenic character that suits golfers who want the round itself to feel like part of the sightseeing. Visit Laos golf courses to find more places to play during your Indonesia golf holiday.

Beyond the fairways, Laos rewards the time spent off them. Vientiane’s temples, markets, and riverside restaurants give a golf trip genuine cultural depth, while Luang Prabang’s UNESCO old town, morning alms-giving ceremony, and Mekong River boat trips turn a golf break into something closer to a cultural journey with golf included. Most international visitors connect through Bangkok, which also makes it straightforward to combine a Laos golf trip with a wider Thailand itinerary.

GolfLux Laos packages range from a 3-day Long Thanh Vientiane stay-and-play from USD 395 per person to a 7-day Laos golf holiday from USD 1,140 per person, with 3-day, 5-day, and 6-day formats also available across both Vientiane and Luang Prabang.

Why a Laos Golf Holiday Is Perfect for Your Next Trip

Laos has fewer golf courses than Thailand or Vietnam, and that is worth saying upfront rather than working around. What the country offers instead is a small number of courses set in places that genuinely add something to the round.

Luang Prabang Golf Club sits near a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the surrounding hills and the slower pace of the town shaping the experience as much as the layout itself. Sea Games Golf Club in Vientiane was built for the 2009 Southeast Asian Games, which gives it a competition pedigree that some smaller national capitals cannot claim. Long Thanh Vientiane Golf Club and Lao Country Club round out the capital’s options, both maintained to a standard that holds up well against the volume of play they receive from the city’s growing local golf community.

The trade-off is straightforward. You are not getting five or six courses to rotate through across a week. You are getting two or three rounds, each with a different backdrop, in a country where golf infrastructure has developed quickly without yet attracting the crowds that define play in neighboring countries. For golfers who have done the bigger Southeast Asia destinations and want quieter fairways and a noticeably calmer pace of play, that absence of crowding is itself part of the appeal.

How to Choose Between Vientiane and Luang Prabang

The two destinations in the Laos portfolio suit different kinds of trips, and the choice mostly comes down to what you want surrounding the golf.

Vientiane Golf Packages puts you in the capital, where Sea Games Golf Club, Long Thanh Vientiane Golf Club, and Lao Country Club give you enough variety for two or three rounds without repetition. Vientiane itself is a quieter capital than Bangkok or Hanoi, with temples, markets, and a riverside promenade along the Mekong that make for an easy half-day between rounds. The Vientiane Golf Package 3 Days and Long Thanh Vientiane Golf Club 3 Days Package both cover this compact format, while the Laos Golf Holiday 7 Days extends the stay with city touring built around the rounds.

Luang Prabang Golf Packages centers on a town that is itself the main draw. Luang Prabang’s status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site means the non-golf side of the trip carries real weight: morning markets, riverside temples, and a townscape that has changed little in character despite the tourism infrastructure that has grown around it. Playing golf here works as one part of a slower, culturally focused stay rather than the central activity. The Luang Prabang Golf Package 5 Days and 3 Days Golf In Luang Prabang both structure the trip this way, with golf days alternating against time in the town itself.

For golfers who want both, the Laos Golf Package 5 Days and Laos Golf Package 4 Days connect Vientiane and Luang Prabang in a single itinerary, giving you the capital’s course variety alongside the cultural weight of Luang Prabang.

Who a Laos Golf Holiday Is Best For

Laos suits golfers who want value without sacrificing course quality. Green fees generally run from USD 50 to 100, noticeably lower than comparable courses in Thailand or Vietnam, and caddies and club rental add little to the overall cost. A package that bundles hotel, transport, and tee times together tends to keep the trip well within budget even at the longer end of the duration range.

It also suits golfers for whom the cultural side of a Southeast Asia trip matters as much as the golf. A round at Luang Prabang Golf Club followed by an evening at the night market, or a morning at Vientiane’s Pha That Luang stupa before an afternoon tee time, gives the trip a rhythm that golf-only itineraries elsewhere do not offer in quite the same way.

The dry season from November to March is the most reliable window, with temperatures around 15 degrees Celsius and minimal rain keeping the courses in good condition. The wet season from May to October brings heavier afternoon rain but also fewer visitors and notably greener surroundings, which some golfers find a reasonable trade if an early tee time is built into the schedule. Caddies are mandatory at Laos courses as they are throughout the region, with tipping generally falling between USD 10 and 20 per round depending on the level of service.

For international travelers, most routes into Laos connect through Bangkok, which makes it straightforward to combine a Laos golf holiday with a longer Thailand trip, either as a quieter extension after a busier Bangkok or Pattaya stay, or as the cultural counterpoint to a more course-focused itinerary elsewhere in the region.

Frequently asked questions

Honestly, if you’re lugging your clubs to Laos, you want to go between November and March. The humidity drops, the temperatures are actually manageable, and the courses are in prime shape.

That said, don’t completely write off the wet season from May through October. You’ll definitely hit some heavy afternoon rain, but the trade-off is zero crowds and ridiculous, lush scenery. Just pack an umbrella and a good attitude.

Regardless of the month, do yourself a favor and book the earliest tee time you can get. Walking 18 holes in the midday Southeast Asian sun is brutal.

If you’ve checked green fees in Thailand or Vietnam lately, playing in Laos is going to feel like a steal. You’re generally looking at $50 to $100 for a round, which is getting harder and harder to find in Southeast Asia. The add-ons won’t drain your wallet, either caddies and club rentals are genuinely cheap.

If you really want to stretch your travel budget, skip booking everything a la carte. Finding a local package that just bundles your hotel room, transport, and tee times together is almost always the easiest way to keep costs down.

Like other Southeast Asian countries, having a caddie is mandatory when playing golf on courses in Laos. This makes playing golf easier, and sometimes they even speak good English with golfers.

Figuring out tipping etiquette in a new country can be slightly stressful, but in Laos, the rule of thumb for golf caddies is pretty straightforward: plan on giving them $10 to $20 USD per round (roughly 200,000 to 400,000 Lao Kip), therefore, 300,000 Lao kip is perfect.

Ten bucks is essentially the baseline. However, if your caddie was pulling the right clubs, giving decent reads on the greens, and keeping a good attitude for four or five hours in the elements, handing them $15 or $20 is the right move. Just make sure you hand the cash directly to them when you walk off the 18th green, rather than leaving it behind at the pro shop.
