Changes and highlights in the PGA Tour – 2025 season

Swapping tournament positions in the schedule

Several tournaments in fall-winter 2025 have been adjusted in order to enhance the tournament schedule and weather conditions. For example, the Baycurrent Classic has been transferred to early October, whereas the Bank of Utah Championship took place at the end of October so that there was a reasonable gap between both tournaments and provided the golfers with better preparation. This adjustment has seamless golf and international tournaments such as the World Wide Technology Championship in Mexico and the Butterfield Bermuda Championship do not overlap with significant tournaments often making golf tournaments easier for golfers and spectators to follow.

The appearance of new golf courses

There are several golf courses that will be hosting PGA Tour events for the first time during this timeframe from now until the end of 2025.

A fabulous example is Black Desert Resort Golf Course in Utah; it’s an interesting golf course with interesting desert topography that will test golfers’ skills across the fairways and sand traps.

El Cardonal at Diamante in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, is also debuting with a seaside course requiring golfers to execute the proper ball control and adjust to the influence of prevailing breezes from the sea.

These brand-new golf courses deliver not only a new experience for golfers but also some engaging vistas and layout as attractions for spectators.

Improvements in the FedEx Cup scoring system

The PGA Tour has implemented significant changes to the FedEx Cup point system to establish a fairer and more exciting competitive environment. Especially increased were points for position from 2nd to 10th at major events and the Players Championship. Points for position 11th and below were slightly increased. The change should give golfers greater motivation to compete vigorously for a better finishing position.

In addition, the PGA Tour has also eliminated the “starting strokes” at Tour Championship, returning to a traditional stroke-play format, with all 30 golfers starting from the first tee at par. This is a step designed to create enhanced transparency and equity in how the champion is determined at the conclusion of the “season.”

The 2025 PGA Tour season from now until the end of the year promises to be dramatic with many notable changes to the tournament schedule, new golf courses and an improved FedEx Cup scoring system. This is an opportunity for golfers to show their form and bring an exciting experience to fans. Closely following the tournament schedule will help you not miss important moments of the season.
