Hubei Golf Courses: Book Tee Times & Play Central China's Best Golf in 2026/2027

Golf Course Map

Hubei sits at the geographical centre of China, and its capital Wuhan is one of the country’s most underrated cities for golf. While Hainan and Guangdong dominate the conversation about Chinese resort golf, Hubei offers something different: well-maintained courses with genuine breathing room, lower green fees than the coastal resort destinations, and a city with more cultural depth than most international visitors expect.

The courses here are concentrated around Wuhan, a metropolis of 12 million people that sits at the confluence of the Yangtze and Han rivers. Orient Golf & Country Club and WuFengshan Golf Club are the names most visiting golfers target, and both deliver layouts that are genuinely fun to play without the pressure of a packed tee sheet. The pace of play is more relaxed than at China’s busiest golf destinations, which makes Hubei practical for golfers who want to take their time and enjoy the round rather than feel pushed through.

The cultural programme around the golf is strong. The Yellow Crane Tower, one of the three great towers of southern China, has stood on Wuhan’s Snake Hill since the 3rd century in various forms and offers views over the confluence of the two rivers. Dong Hu (East Lake) is the largest urban lake in China and has cycling paths and walking trails along its 73-kilometre shoreline. Wudang Mountain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site about 4 hours from Wuhan, is one of the most sacred Taoist sites in China and worth an overnight extension.

Hubei Golf Guide: Where to Play, When to Go, and How to Combine Golf with Central China

Hubei is the geographic heart of China, a landlocked province centered on Wuhan where the Yangtze and Han rivers meet. It is not a destination most international golfers plan a trip around, but it is a destination that rewards the visit in ways the coastal provinces cannot. Three courses are listed in the GolfLux Hubei database, and the headline one earns genuine attention: Hanmaster Golf and Country Club in Wuhan’s Caidian District is a Paul Yu design measuring 7,612 yards with a slope of 137. At that length and slope, Hanmaster is one of the longest and more technically demanding provincial courses in central China. The combination of Wuhan’s emerging cultural scene, the Three Gorges region to the west, and the Wudang Mountains to the northwest gives Hubei a non-golf program that is more layered than most visiting golfers expect.

The destination framing for Hubei is similar to Yogyakarta or Jawa Tengah in Indonesia: you come for the cultural and natural landscape, and golf adds structure to one or two mornings. The Yellow Crane Tower is one of the most visited heritage sites in central China. The East Lake in Wuhan is the largest urban lake in China according to China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The Three Gorges, accessible by river cruise from Yichang in western Hubei, are among the most recognized natural features on the Yangtze. Playing golf in the same province that contains these things gives the trip a different quality from a pure resort destination.

Hubei suits travelers building a China cultural circuit that includes the Yangtze and central China, business visitors to Wuhan who want a round between meetings, and golfers who want to play an unusually long course at a provincial price point.

Best golf courses in Hubei

Three courses serve the province. Two anchor the visiting program.

  1. Hanmaster Golf and Country Club

Hanmaster Golf and Country Club is an 18-hole, par 72 layout measuring 7,612 yards with a slope of 137, designed by Paul Yu, located in Caidian District, Wuhan according to the club. At 7,612 yards it is one of the longest courses in central China, and the slope of 137 reflects a design that challenges through placement demands and course management rather than rough alone. The Caidian District location on the western edge of Wuhan puts it about 30 to 40 minutes from the city center by road.

It suits experienced low-handicap golfers who specifically want a long-game test at provincial pricing, business visitors to Wuhan with a free morning, and golfers building a China circuit who want to add an unusual central China course.

  1. Tianlong Bay International Golf Club

Tianlong Bay International Golf Club, also known as Yichang Sanxia Tianlongwan International Golf Club, is an 18-hole course located in Yidu, Yichang, Hubei Province according to the club. The Yichang location in western Hubei places it near the Yangtze River and within range of the Three Gorges dam area, making it the most geographically distinctive course in the province. Yichang is the embarkation point for most Yangtze River Three Gorges cruises, and a round at Tianlong Bay before or after a cruise departure gives the Yichang stop a complete program.

  1. Weipeng Yishan Golf Club

Weipeng Yishan Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 72 layout in the East Lake Hi-Tech Development Zone in Wuhan according to the club. The East Lake location in eastern Wuhan makes it one of the more accessible city-based rounds for golfers staying in the main Wuhan hotel district, and the East Lake parkland setting gives it a more natural character than the typical urban course.

Which course is better?

Hanmaster is the first choice by specification and the primary reason golfers come to Wuhan specifically for golf. Tianlong Bay suits golfers combining a round with the Three Gorges cruise at Yichang. Weipeng Yishan fills a city-convenient East Lake round. Most Hubei programs cover Hanmaster as the primary round.

Best time to play golf in Hubei

Hubei has four distinct seasons and the GolfLux FAQ for the province identifies March through May and September through November as the best golf windows. China’s National Tourism Administration notes Wuhan is famously known as one of China’s “three furnaces” for its hot, humid summers.

March to May is the most pleasant spring window. Temperatures are around 15 to 25 degrees Celsius with cherry blossoms visible across the city’s parks in March and April. The East Lake cherry blossom season in late March is one of the most attended events in Wuhan’s annual calendar.

September to November is the other reliable window. Temperatures cool from September onward, the foliage on the Wuhan city lakes turns in October, and the Three Gorges scenery is at its most dramatic in the autumn mist. October is widely considered the best single month for central China travel.

June to August is hot and humid, with Wuhan reaching 35 to 40 degrees Celsius in July and August. Early morning rounds before 7am are the only practical approach if visiting in this period.

December to February is cold, sometimes freezing, and golf is generally not practical from December through February.

Hubei golf holidays and package tours

Hubei suits two to four day programs as part of a China cultural circuit, with Wuhan as the base. Wuhan Tianhe International Airport has direct connections from major Chinese cities and several international routes. The Wuhan to Beijing high-speed rail takes about five hours, and Wuhan to Shanghai takes about four and a half hours, making Hubei a practical midpoint on a China rail journey between the two major metropolitan golf hubs.

The most natural Hubei golf structure for international visitors is one or two Wuhan rounds combined with the Yellow Crane Tower, East Lake, and the city’s famous hot dry noodle breakfast culture, plus an optional Yichang extension for the Three Gorges cruise. The Wuhan to Yichang high-speed train takes about one hour and forty minutes.

East Lake in Wuhan is the most distinctive non-golf urban destination in the province. The 33-square-kilometer lake in eastern Wuhan, larger than the West Lake in Hangzhou, has cycling paths, cherry blossom parks, wetland areas, and the Hubei Provincial Museum on its shore. The museum houses the Marquis Yi of Zeng bronzeware collection, including a 65-piece bronze bell chime from the 5th century BC that China’s National Cultural Heritage Administration designates as a top-tier national treasure. Browse Hubei golf packages or create a custom Hubei and China itinerary combining Wuhan golf with the Three Gorges and the high-speed rail circuit.

Golf with the Three Gorges and Wuhan’s Yangtze culture

The Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, the Qutang, Wu, and Xiling gorges between Chongqing and Yichang, are one of China’s most recognized natural landscapes. The completion of the Three Gorges Dam in 2006 raised the Yangtze water level by up to 175 meters, flooding many of the original gorge-side towns and temples, but the dramatic cliff faces, mist-filled valleys, and tributary gorges remain. River cruises from Chongqing to Yichang, or the shorter reverse direction, take two to four days and are available through licensed cruise operators from both cities. For golfers based in Wuhan, the Wuhan to Yichang high-speed train connects to the cruise embarkation point in under two hours, making a Wuhan golf and Three Gorges cruise combined program straightforward to structure.

The Yellow Crane Tower on Snake Hill in central Wuhan is the most recognized heritage structure in Hubei. China’s National Cultural Heritage Administration notes the tower as one of the most cited landmarks in classical Chinese poetry, referenced by Tang dynasty poets including Cui Hao and Li Bai. The current structure is a 1985 reconstruction, but the hilltop position above the Yangtze and Han river confluence gives it genuine views across the Wuhan urban landscape that explain why it has been a landmark site for over a millennium.

Wudang Mountain in northwestern Hubei, accessible from Wuhan by high-speed rail to Shiyan and then a bus connection, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site designated in 1994 for its Taoist architecture and the collection of temples, monasteries, and palaces built into the cliff faces of the Wudang range from the Tang dynasty through the Ming. China’s National Cultural Heritage Administration notes the site as one of the most significant complexes of Taoist heritage architecture in China. The mountain is also associated with the origins of Wudang martial arts, a Taoist-rooted fighting tradition that differs from the Shaolin Buddhist martial arts tradition of Henan. A full Wudang visit requires an overnight stay given the distance from Wuhan.

Book tee times in Hubei

Hanmaster Golf and Country Club should be booked a week ahead for weekend slots during the March through May and September through November peak windows. The GolfLux FAQ confirms many of Hubei’s courses are semi-private or public, with advance booking recommended especially for weekend rounds. Weekday availability at all three Hubei courses is generally open with two to three days’ notice. Tianlong Bay in Yichang benefits from being confirmed alongside Yangtze cruise arrangements if both are part of the same trip.

When organizing a Hubei golf program, confirm Hanmaster as the priority Wuhan booking, high-speed rail logistics from Beijing or Shanghai if traveling by train, accommodation in central Wuhan near the Yangtze riverfront for the most convenient access to both the golf courses and the cultural sites, and whether the Yichang Three Gorges extension or the Wudang Mountain day trip fits within the available schedule. Start planning here or view Hubei golf packages to incorporate Wuhan into a wider China program.

Spring from March through May and autumn from September through November are the two ideal windows. March to May brings warming temperatures and lower humidity, with the landscape at its greenest after winter. October is arguably the best single month, with cool air, clear skies, and comfortable conditions from first tee to 18th green. July and August are hot and very humid in Wuhan, which sits in a river basin that traps summer heat, earning the city its reputation as one of China’s “three furnaces.” December through February is cold, with January temperatures regularly dropping below freezing, making golf impractical at most courses.
