Seasons Lifestyle Estate

Farm Hertebusfontein, Old Rustenburg Road, Brits, 0250, South Africa

Seasons Golf Course formerly Brits Golf Club sits on the northern slopes of the Magaliesberg Mountains in South Africa’s North West Province, about 45 minutes from both Johannesburg and Pretoria. The club was originally established in 1977 as a 9-hole layout and expanded to 18 holes in 1990. The address is Old Rustenburg Road, Brits, and the course occupies 300 acres of indigenous bushveld within the Seasons Lifestyle Estate.

The layout plays to par 72 across 6,191 yards. Fairways are Kikuyu grass and greens are Cynodon  both well-suited to the highveld climate and low maintenance demands of a member-run club. No official slope or course rating is publicly available.

Course Overview

The terrain here does not flatten things out for you. Elevation changes are a consistent feature across the round several holes involve significant uphill or downhill approaches, and a handful of tee shots require committing to a line without a clear view of the landing area. The LeadingCourses community describes it accurately: a course where you can build a love-hate relationship with, partly because of the blind shots and elevation, and partly because when you get it right, the setting makes it worth every stroke.

What the course has going for it is the environment. Holes run through indigenous bushveld with wilderness zones left intact between fairways the club’s stated policy is to avoid disturbing the natural habitat rather than manicuring everything into a conventional parkland layout. Wildlife is a genuine presence on the course: impala and wildebeest have been spotted on the fairways, and the birdlife throughout the round is consistent with 300 acres of Magaliesberg bushveld. Magaliesberg Mountain views frame most holes on the back nine.

The course is open Tuesday to Sunday year-round and welcomes visiting golfers alongside members. Seasons runs competitions and social golf days regularly, and the club supports a youth development programme. Men’s league play falls under the Gauteng North Golf Union; women’s leagues under the North West Golf Union.

For golfers on a South Africa golf trip who want a round that feels like proper African bush rather than a manicured resort layout, Seasons is the closest option of that kind to Johannesburg.
