If you’re planning to play golf in Phu Quoc, the island’s golf scene is split between a few heavy hitters, but Vinpearl Golf Phu Quoc is usually the first track people book. Located up north near Bai Dai beach, it’s a massive 27-hole facility originally laid out by IMG.
Instead of a standard 18, they built three distinct nine-hole loops (often referred to as the Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, and Quy Nhon nines). This setup is actually pretty forgiving for resort guests because it breaks up the traffic, meaning you aren’t always waiting on the tee box. The routing cuts directly through the island’s old-growth tropical forest, which looks great but means you’ll lose a lot of balls if you miss the fairway.
As a Phu Quoc Golf Course, it deals with serious tropical heat and heavy rainy seasons. To handle this, the grounds crew relies entirely on Platinum Paspalum grass. It’s a sticky, salt-tolerant turf that keeps the fairways looking impossibly green and stops the ball fast on the approach. You’ll need to hit your putts a little harder than you’re used to, as the greens can run a bit slow depending on the humidity.
The signature par-3 13th hole gets most of the photo traffic because it looks right out over the ocean, but the real challenge of this golf course in Phu Quoc is managing the wind coming off the Gulf. You also have to use a caddy. Even if you prefer to walk and carry your own bag, the caddies here are mandatory, but they are generally great at reading the grain on those tricky Paspalum greens. It’s not a cheap round, but if you’re already at the resort, the convenience and course conditioning make it an easy choice.
