Squeezed into a surprisingly tight spot, the Wanderers Golf Club is a testament to Bob Grimsdell’s clever course design. He managed to tuck championship tees into every possible corner. Even after losing its first three holes to make way for the Wanderers Cricket Stadium back in the 50s, the course has held on to its tough but fun character. That same stadium now looms over the 10th hole, a monster 533-meter par-five that’s the longest on the course.
Right in the heart of Gauteng, Wanderers is known for its friendly, close-knit group of members. The course itself is a par 71 with a quirky layout: three par-threes on the back nine and just one on the front. The front nine kicks off with a recently lengthened 516-meter par-five and is packed with seven par-fours. You’ll need to pull out the driver for a couple of hefty par-fours on each side of the course.
