- Winter (December to February): Winter in Chongqing is not too cold and there is no snow, making it a year-round golf destination. Mornings and evenings are chilly, but afternoons are surprisingly warm. Bring plenty of layers, and don’t expect perfect playing conditions, but this is still a great time for a relaxing round of golf. Although the days are shorter, this is the low season so you will enjoy discounts and the courses are quieter.

Accommodation prices in Chongqing can vary by type, location and amenities. Depending on the choice from hotel to homestay, the price will vary. For most golfersIn China, 3-4 star hotels in the central area will provide the best experience, balancing price, convenience and quality. The price per night ranges from $50 – $80 per night including breakfast. However, some hotels below 4 stars will usually refuse even if you register in advance on booking websites. So contact directly to avoid not having a hotel to stay. Besides budget hotels, you can also stay in 5-star hotels and resorts with river views, providing full services from basic to high-end for about $100 – $150 per night.

Before you set off, here are some helpful tips I’ve picked up to help you avoid common pitfalls and make the most of your golf trip in Chongqing. From transportation tips to caddie etiquette, a little preparation goes a long way.
- Courses like Chongqing Poly and Chongqing International can get pretty crowded, especially on weekends and during peak seasons. Book tee times at least two weeks in advance, or even earlier. You can ask your hotel to book for you or use an agent for convenience and better prices.
- Many golf courses in Chongqing are built along mountainsides and have undulating terrain. Even with a cart, you’ll still be doing a fair amount of walking, especially around the tees and greens. A pair of comfortable, breathable, and well-gripped golf shoes will make a big difference.
- Google Maps doesn’t work well in China, and Apple Maps or Baidu Maps (which are available in English) are more reliable. Save the club location as a screenshot or offline pin in case you lose signal in the mountains or countryside.
- If you play golf in the summer, set your tee time for early morning when the temperature is not too high. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun. And bring a light jacket because even in the summer, mornings can be quite cold and windy, especially in the mountains.
