Golf in Phuket
Phuket is known as a premier holiday destination, combining great beaches with a solid selection of golf courses. The island has seven main championship courses, with a few more options like Aquella located just across the bridge in neighboring Phang Nga province. Most of these tracks sit within a short drive of the main resort areas, making the island a straightfoward choice for a golf vacation. This guide covers the best times of year to book a trip and previews the top courses to play on the island.
Phuket works particularly well as a single-base golf destination. Most major golf venues are spread between Kathu in central Phuket, Bang Tao and Thalang in the north, so golfers can play several different courses without changing hotels.
The golf itself is much more varied than the island’s beach-resort reputation suggests.
Phuket golf at a glance:
December to March is generally the best time to play golf in Phuket because rainfall is lower and tee-time planning is easier. December to February usually gives the most comfortable conditions,; March is still a good option but tends to be warmer. The monthly chart below shows the season pattern, not a forecast for any particular tee time.
Phuket Monthly climate
Use the monthly pattern to choose your travel dates, then check the local forecast and course conditions closer to departure. A rainy day does not necessarily mean a full day of lost golf.
Phuket is home to several world-class golf courses, meeting the needs of both professional and amateur golfers. Here are some of the top golf courses in Phuket for your preference in your golf holiday in Phuket.
| Golf Course | Location | Holes/Par/Length | Estimated Price | Included services | Best For |
| Red Mountain | Kathu | 18 / 72 / 6.781 yd | THB 4600 ($137) | Green fee, caddie, compulsory cart | Experienced golfers |
| Blue Canyon | Thalang | 18 / 72 / 7.129 yd | THB 4500 ($134) | Green fee, caddie, compulsory cart | Tournament-course fans |
| Laguna Golf Phuket | Bang Tao | 18 / 71 / 6.756 yd | THB 5600 ($167) | Published club packages, cart extra | Mixed groups and resort stays |
| Loch Palm | Kathu | 18 / 71 / 5.991 yd | THB 3600 ($107) | Green fee, caddie, cart extra | Mid-handicappers and relaxed rounds |
| Mission Hills | Pa Klok | 18 / 72 / 6.806 | THB 3750 ($112) | Green fee, caddie, compulsory cart | Scenery-focused golfers |
| Phuket Country Club | Kathu | 18 / 72 / 6.484 yd | THB 4400($131) | Green fee, caddie, optional cart extra | Value and convenience |
Red Mountain is the course to prioritize if the quality of the golf itself matters more than resort convenience.
The layout was created through the dramatic remains of a former tin mine. Flooded mining pits became water hazards, exposed red rock forms the backdrop to several holes, and the back nine climbs sharply through jungle and steep terrain. The official course guide describes numerous risk-and-reward decisions rather than a layout where golfers can simply hit the driver on every par 4.
The experience becomes especially dramatic late in the round. The 16th tee reaches the highest point of any golf course in Phuket, while the par-3 17th drops around 40 metres from tee to green, making club selection difficult even when the yardage looks straightforward.
Red Mountain Golf Club
Canyon Course
The Canyon Course opened in 1991 and hosted the Johnnie Walker Classic in 1994, 1998 and 2007. Tiger Woods won the 1998 tournament, making it one of Phuket’s most recognizable venues for golfers interested in professional tournament history
The course was created from former mining land bordered by mature vegetation. Water, ravines and bunkering influence shot selection, while the longer tees create a demanding ball-striking test.
The Canyon Course suits golfers who value tournament history and strategic challenge. Positioning is important, particularly when playing from the longer tees.
Lakes Course
The Lakes Course has generally wider landing areas than the Canyon Course, but water features on 17 of its 18 holes. This makes its difficulty less obvious from the tee.
Players need to select targets carefully and manage the risk of water throughout the round. The finishing hole is particularly demanding and provides a memorable conclusion.
The Lakes Course offers a more open visual layout than Canyon, but golfers uncomfortable around water should not underestimate it.
Blue Canyon Country Club
Laguna is one of the easiest Phuket golf courses to integrate into a wider resort holiday.
The course sits within the Laguna Phuket complex near Bang Tao Beach. Golfers staying around Bang Tao can therefore reduce daily transfer time significantly compared with repeatedly driving into Kathu or toward the airport.
The layout is more subtle than Red Mountain. Water, fairway positioning and green contours create much of the difficulty rather than extreme elevation.
Laguna Golf Phuket
Loch Palm sits next to Red Mountain but creates a noticeably different golf experience.
The front nine follows Crystal Lake, and water affects 10 holes overall. Fairway landing areas are more generous than at Red Mountain, although water comes into play on six of the opening seven holes. The back nine becomes hillier, with more uneven lies and elevated shots through forested terrain.
Its shorter length does not mean every hole is easier. The par-3 15th plays sharply downhill toward a green protected by water, with elevation and wind complicating club selection.
Loch Palm Golf Club
Mission Hills offers something the inland Kathu courses cannot: direct exposure to the coast and Andaman Sea.
The Nicklaus-designed course measures 6,806 yards from the back tees, with water and coastal wind influencing club selection. The official course rules require every golfer to use both a caddie and golf cart, and carts must remain on the cart path.
The strongest reason to play here is the setting. Sea breezes and coastal views provide a different experience from Phuket’s tin-mine and jungle layouts.

Phuket Country Club deserves inclusion because of its central position and straightforward visitor pricing.
The Old Course uses three different terrain types across the round, moving through hills, flatter ground and landscaped forest. The signature par-5 10th wraps around a large lake and allows aggressive golfers to shorten the hole by taking on a significant water carry.
The round here is less dramatic but practical. It is easier to fit into a short itinerary, especially when staying near Phuket Town or Patong.

To make your best time in Phuket, here are some helpful tips for you to consider:
Early rounds reduce exposure to peak afternoon heat and leave more time for beaches, spa treatments or restaurants afterward.
Recent golfer experiences at Red Mountain, Laguna and other courses demonstrate that renovation or maintenance can temporarily alter normal playing conditions.
Ask specifically about:
before confirming a high-value round.
Transport becomes easier when the vehicle has enough space for all golf bags and stays aligned with tee times.
This is particularly useful when a trip combines central courses such as Red Mountain with northern venues such as Blue Canyon.
Red Mountain itself recommends carrying both an umbrella and golf-bag rain cover because
Phuket can experience short seasonal showers even outside the wettest months.
All non-Thai nationals entering Thailand must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card, or TDAC.

The most comfortable weather is from December to March, when the island is cooler and drier. You can play golf year round, but booking during the rainy season from June to October gets you much lower green fees and quieter courses.
Green fees generally run between THB 2,000 and THB 6,500 depending on the specific course, the season, and your tee time. Rates drop across the board during the low season months from May to October.
A four to seven day trip works well. This window gives you enough time to play three to five different courses while leaving days open for the beach, boat tours, local markets, or restaurants.
Pack lightweight golf clothing, golf shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and bug spray. If you are travelling during the wet season, bring reliable rain gear, and always keep plenty of water on hand for the tropical humidity.
