Taoyuan Jiangjing Golf Club

Taoyuan Jiangjing Golf Club opened in November 2006 in Jihongtan, Chengyang District, on the border between Qingdao and Jiaozhou in Shandong Province. The club sits 20 minutes from Qingdao city center and 15 minutes from Qingdao Airport, positioned on one of the major transit corridors connecting Qingdao to the rest of China via the Jinan-Qingdao Expressway, the Jiaozhou Bay Ring Expressway, and National Roads 308 and 204.

The property covers more than 2,500 acres and operates 36 holes across two 18-hole international championship courses — the South Course at 7,415 yards and the North Course at 7,265 yards. Both were designed by American course architect Neil Haworth with landscape design by Korean designer Mr. Kim, and built under the supervision of senior shapers from the United States and Australia. In 2013, the club was awarded the Shandong Province Best Landmark Golf Course.

Course Overview

The defining characteristic of Taoyuan Jiangjing is water — and not in a cosmetic sense. The property encompasses 300,000 square meters of water area integrated directly into the routing of both courses. Nearly every hole runs alongside a lake, with water used as the primary structural barrier between fairways rather than as a decorative feature. The design draws on Scottish links principles — large elevation changes, significant undulation, and water as a natural boundary — applied to a wetland environment rather than a coastal one.

The result earned the club a designation that still stands: China’s first wetland ecological golf club. The 166-hectare biological reserve that the course sits within supports three of China’s major migratory bird routes. Black-faced spoonbills, egrets, wild ducks, red-crowned cranes, and whooper swans are regular presences on and around the course. For golfers who play early morning rounds, the birdlife on the wetland is a consistent part of the experience rather than an occasional sighting.

Strategically placed bunkers of varying sizes frame the holes throughout both courses, combined with diverse plantings between fairways that give the routing seasonal character — the club’s name, which translates loosely as “Peach Garden River View,” reflects the flowering plant coverage that changes through spring and summer. The South Course plays longer and is considered the more demanding layout; the North Course offers a slightly more manageable test while still presenting consistent water challenges.

The 4,500-square-meter clubhouse, which opened in early 2007, includes a member restaurant, locker rooms, a pro shop, departure lounge, and private banquet hall, all built in a European post-modern style with clean lines and understated finishes.
