Weihai Weigao Tianan Golf Club

Weihai Weigao Tianan Golf Club sits in Caomiaozi Town, Huancui District about 20 minutes and 8 kilometers south of Weihai city center, and roughly 25 minutes from Weihai International Airport. The course occupies a site that Weihai’s Industrial New Zone designated specifically as a health and resort development area, taking advantage of what the Chinese source literature describes as the best hot spring resources on the Shandong Peninsula. Weihai itself carries a UN designation as one of the most suitable cities for human habitation in China, and the combination of coastal climate, natural terrain, and accessible infrastructure makes it one of the more popular golf destinations for visitors from South Korea, which sits roughly 45 minutes by air from Weihai.

The course was designed jointly by Australian architect Les Watts and British designer David Hemstock whose prior credits include the Queen’s Course and the sixth course at St Andrews and runs 27 holes across three nine-hole loops (A, B, and C nines) to a combined par of 108. The total layout measures 11,012 yards. Each hole is built with five tee positions. No official slope or rating is publicly available.

Course Overview

The three nines have distinct characters that make them worth playing as separate combinations rather than simply as a 27-hole rotation.

The A nine is the most physically demanding of the three, with significant elevation variation and doglegs that require accurate positioning off the tee. The C nine reintroduces difficulty through water, with lake hazards and design features that several Korean golf publications flag as the most strategically interesting section of the course.

Throughout all three nines, the natural environment has been left largely intact. More than ten natural lakes linked by valleys create a continuous water circulation system across the property. Black pine forest covers significant portions of the course, and white-flowered reeds, shrubs, and vines define the rough areas between fairways. The course also features a double-green shared between two holes an unusual design element that gives golfers a different putting experience depending on pin placement. The club has been described by the Korean golf travel industry as one of the most characteristic courses in China, partly because the terrain genuinely dictates the routing rather than the other way around.
